English as an Additional Language (EAL)
Every Language Valued. Every Learner Empowered. Every Child Belongs.
At Milborne Port Primary School, we celebrate the rich diversity of languages, cultures and experiences that our children and families bring to our school community. Guided by our vision of Making a Difference Through Empowerment and Challenging the Norm, we are committed to ensuring that every child feels welcomed, valued and empowered to achieve their full potential.
We recognise that speaking more than one language is a strength and an opportunity to enrich learning for everyone. Our approach to English as an Additional Language (EAL) celebrates children's home languages and identities while supporting them to develop the confidence, communication skills and English proficiency needed to thrive.
Belonging, Inclusion and High Expectations
From the moment children join our school, we work closely with families to understand each child's experiences, strengths and individual needs. Through inclusive teaching, visual resources, opportunities for meaningful conversation and personalised support, we ensure that every pupil can access our ambitious curriculum and participate fully in school life.
Empowering Every Learner
We carefully assess and regularly review children's progress in listening, speaking, reading and writing, adapting our support as their confidence and skills develop. We believe that learning English should never limit a child's opportunities, aspirations or ability to demonstrate what they know.
Above all, we want every multilingual learner to feel proud of who they are, confident in sharing their voice and excited about their learning journey.
Together, we celebrate every language, challenge every barrier and empower every child to make a difference.
Curious Minds. Kind Hearts. Brighter Futures.
