Online Safety Help and Advice

Help & Advice for  Parents & Carers

As our world becomes more and more 'networked', children have increasing access to ICT resources and online activities.  It is really important that we, as a school, support the children in making informed, educated decisions about the content that they access, and that we support you, as parents in making sure that access outside school is both safe and secure.

On this page, we have gathered a number of resources, documents, videos and links to other websites to help you successfully navigate through the ever-changing face of the internet. If you have any questions then please don't hesitate to contact the school. We would be only too pleased to give you any help or advice about keeping you and your children safe whilst online.

The NSPCC highlight the importance of online safety. To children, online friends are real friends. Online life is real life. There's no distinction.

For advice and support on setting up parental controls, adjusting privacy settings, understanding social networks and more check out the links below or call the NSPCC online safety advice helpline 0808 800 5002 - Lines are open from 9am - 7pm, Monday to Friday and 10am - 6pm on weekends. All calls are free of charge.

Always be careful when you are using the internet. It can help you to keep in touch with your friends and help your education – but it can also cause harm – to you and to others. Following the SMART rules will help keep you safe. Click the poster to see the SMART rules full size.

Safe - do I feel safe online?

Meeting - should I meet someone that I don't know in the real world?

Accepting - be careful what you click on!

Reliable - can you be sure what you read on the internet is true?

Tell - if something online makes you feel uncomfortable then tell an adult.

Always be kind and respectful to others online.

Remember help is always available at school if you are having any problems online. Please don’t be afraid to talk to your teacher or another adult at school.

Tips for staying safe online:

Make sure you keep new online friends strictly online. If someone you don't know asks to be your online friend you must ensure an adult knows about it.

Know how to use the CEOP Button and how to report it to the CEOP Centre if you are concerned about someone’s online behaviour towards you.
