Reception / Year 1

Teacher: Mrs Juliet Churchward
with Mrs Hawley

PE will take place on Monday and Wednesday Your child will need to come to school in their PE kit on those days.

Please remember that children cannot wear earrings during PE.  If your child cannot remove earrings themselves, please ensure that they do not wear them to school on Mondays or Wednesdays.  As with all school uniform, please label all of your child’s PE kit; it is very difficult to ensure your child will retain all of their clothing if it is not named.

Home Learning

The focus of home learning in reception is the practice of basic key skills including phonics, early reading and early maths skills.

Your child will bring a book from the reading corner home for you to read to them (known as a sharing book), this will continue throughout the year.  They will also bring home sound folders with the sounds they are learning and some will soon start having word cards or reading books for them to read to you. Please remember to record all reading of sharing books, sound folders, word cards or reading books in your child’s reading record daily, but at the very least 3 times a week.

Our phonics is delivered using Read Write Inc. Please use the link below to be directed to an information page for parents.

Reception Baseline

The Reception Baseline Assessment (RBA) is a short, interactive and practical assessment of your child’s early literacy, communication, language and mathematics skills when they begin in school.
